Ken from What's Ken Making just did an full teardown of Modretro's completely open-source, FPGA-based Nintendo 64 - The "M64". As usual, Ken did a great job breaking it all down and I think the most interesting part of the video is the AMD Artix UltraScale+ FPGA used in the device. These FPGA's have a lot of potential and I think you'll start seeing these in lots of other products for different companies as well. Regardless, anyone who's a fan of "looking inside stuff" should absolutely give it a watch!

As a note, it looks like 3rd party FPGA cores are coming to the M64. This will be very interesting to see, as it could be an indication how the AMD Artix UltraScale+ and Modretro's implementation compare to the now aging DE-10. I'm not exactly sure if there will be official "extra" cores, or only via 3rd part support. That said, developer Fulvio, is creating a complete replacement firmware for the M64 called "OM64". Apparently he's got quite a few working in 4K. I don't own an M64, so I can't test myself, but I'll definitely be following his work and see how it progresses.
